Back then, Big Business openly dominated working class Americans with factory lockouts and hired Goons with clubs. But that didn't last. Common people faced them down, brought voter pressure for change, so Big Business changed tactics. Today, the hired goons of Big Business wear expensive suits, work out of pricey Washington offices and call themselves association executives or "government relations counselors." We know them as lobbyists. In tune with the times, these goons have traded their clubs for hard cash, buying Congressmen, Senators and White House clout. No longer free to draw citizens' blood on the public streets, they're content to make us bleed from our wallets and purses at the gas pump and in store checkout lines. The Good Old Days were much messier. Today, Big Business is nothing, if not neat. It has purchased enough votes and souls to quietly and surgically remove representative government from Washington, replacing it with a system totally beholden to special interests and fueled by your money. Oil companies use it to protect price gouging, -kill alternative energy sources, and reap billions in subsidies and tax breaks. Manufacturers use it to help ship good jobs out of the country, bring cheap labor in, and get tax breaks in the process. All Big Business uses it to break unions, destroy pensions and avoid worker health insurance. How do they get away with it? 1. They get away with it, because we let them. Passive resistance is not an effective response to rape. With no fight or push-back from the public, they're free to do as they please; and 2. They get away with it, because too many politicians and Administration bigwigs are dominated by "public-be-damned" special interest groups, like Big Oil, whose obscene profits are lavishly applied to the election campaigns of their loyal friends, and whose lobbyists make
selling out America as painless as possible, by providing members of the House, Senate and the Administration with international golf outings, stretch limos, private jets, hunting lodges and a never ending stream of gifts and benefits. The results have been very good for them, very bad for you. In 2010, alone, a single Big Oil company is projecting profits equivalent to over $130 from every man, woman and child in the US. How much is enough? What do you think it will take to get America off its apathy? Another million workers robbed of their pension rights or health benefits?
Six dollar-a-gallon gasoline? Reinstatement of the draft to provide more bodies for the Persian Gulf oil wars? Or are you and millions like you ready to act, if you know what to do and have the tools to do it? The simple fact is that, right now, we can begin the process of taking back America. If anyone in this country should own elected officials, it should be the people. How we make quick change in America. The strategy is simple. First, we focus on one obvious, corrupt and greedy target, Big Oil. Then, because we know that Big Oil could not reap huge profits, influence wars, block alternative energy development, or collect billions in government subsidies and tax breaks without controlling Congress, we give you the tools you need to identify the members of the House and Senate from your Congressional district and state, who are selling you out, and vote them out. |
